Today I'm interviewing Bruno Vermote, CEO of Robaco, about balance in a family business, a small SME in West Flanders. It was a connected conversation, during which I learned how open communication, empathy, and caring for each other within the team at this family business foster a strong team spirit and support each other and their customers!
It's also beautiful how Bruno, as a highly sensitive person, finds balance in his CEO role, how he has grown in his family business since graduating, and how he shares the CEO position with his sister Julie.
For Bruno, balance starts with self-awareness and being yourself, so you can communicate when you need some alone time. Being yourself and respecting others are also central to the human side of business at this West Flemish SME.
And the wonderful thing is, when I ask Bruno the final question, "What would you do here if money and time weren't an obstacle and anything were possible, both for your own and your team's well-being?" He would universally commit to further renovations, etc., and accelerate them, with a nice relaxation area for the staff, because he firmly believes that by focusing on his employees, his own well-being will also improve, because happy, healthy, and productive employees will lighten his workload.
