So fascinating what we were able to learn from Lise Conix , CEO of Schoenen Torfs ! 👠

As a mother of two young children and a whopping five in her newly formed family, she had a lot of fascinating things to tell us about work-life balance! She allows her worlds as CEO and mother to blend seamlessly. If she couldn't do that, she would feel like a failure.

In this way, she strives to be caring and to strengthen businesses, and these are elements she carries over into her role as CEO of the company. Similarly, she brings home her role in the company, so her children can be more confident, learn to be entrepreneurial, gain self-confidence, and pursue new opportunities. These two domains reinforce each other and don't leave her feeling constantly lacking in any one area.

The family business is also a huge passion for Lise. She brings this passion with her even when she's home, for example, by coming up with new ideas.

Furthermore, her hobby of running helps her put things into perspective and see things clearly again. This is her "mindful" moment, which she schedules at least four times a week.

Lise also talks about how she is realizing her vision for HR policy at Torfs, to create "courageous leadership" among each employee based on their personal leadership, so that people dare to openly share what is really going on with each other.

"We invest in our employees not as 'employees,' but as 'people,'" says Lise. They offer them training focused more on personal development, such as 'empathetic leadership' and 'learning to listen,' because this will also help them be happier employees. This positive impact on the workplace also leads to greater customer focus.

Lise draws a great deal of energy from the people at Torfs and from the collaboration. However, it's equally important for her to connect with people outside the company, such as other organizations, to gain new ideas. For example, she feels that if she focuses too much on micromanagement and Torfs itself, things won't go well for her and she'll have to take a step back. She needs to communicate with other companies sufficiently to return to Torfs with new perspectives.

Furthermore, there must be sufficient balance in her job, between self-employment and initiating projects on the one hand, and coaching people on the other. It's this balance she needs between both activities, in such a large organization with 650 employees. Conflicts are always present, and she dedicates considerable time to them, but it shouldn't be the only issue. Lise also needs to be able to initiate new projects.
